DJI Zenmuse L1 vs L2 Lidar
If you are looking for a lidar solution for your drone, you might be wondering which one of the DJI Zenmuse series is better for your needs: the L1 or the L2. In this blog post, we will compare the main features and specifications of these two lidar sensors and help you decide which one is more suitable for your applications.
The DJI Zenmuse L1 is a lightweight and compact lidar sensor that integrates a Livox Lidar module, a high-accuracy IMU, and a 20-megapixel camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor. The L1 can generate true-color point clouds and 3D models in real-time, and it supports up to three returns per pulse. The L1 is designed for various scenarios such as powerline inspection, cultural heritage documentation, forestry management, and construction.
The DJI Zenmuse L2 is a more advanced and powerful lidar sensor that integrates a Livox Avia Lidar module, a high-accuracy IMU, and a 24-megapixel camera with a full-frame CMOS sensor. The L2 can generate high-density point clouds and 3D models with up to 6 returns per pulse, and it has a longer detection range of up to 460 meters. The L2 is ideal for complex and large-scale scenarios such as urban planning, mining, transportation, and energy.
The main differences between the L1 and the L2 are:
The L2 has a higher point cloud density of up to 240 points per square meter, while the L1 has up to 100 points per square meter.
The L2 has a wider field of view of 70.4 degrees, while the L1 has 58.5 degrees.
The L2 has a higher camera resolution of 24 megapixels, while the L1 has 20 megapixels.
The L2 has a larger sensor size of 35.9 x 24 mm, while the L1 has 13.2 x 8.8 mm.
The L2 has a higher maximum data rate of 240 Mbps, while the L1 has 100 Mbps.
The L2 has a longer battery life of up to 55 minutes, while the L1 has up to 46 minutes.
The main similarities between the L1 and the L2 are:
They both use the Livox Lidar technology, which features non-repetitive scanning patterns, high accuracy, and reliability.
They both have a high-accuracy IMU that provides attitude data and compensates for the aircraft's attitude changes.
They both have a global shutter camera that captures RGB images that are aligned with the point cloud data.
They both support real-time point cloud generation and display on the DJI Pilot app.
They both have an IP44 rating that protects them from dust and water splashes.
To summarize, the DJI Zenmuse L1 and L2 are both high-performance lidar sensors that can enhance your drone's capabilities for various applications. However, the L2 offers more advantages in terms of point cloud density, detection range, camera quality, data rate, and battery life. Therefore, if you need a more professional and comprehensive lidar solution, the L2 might be a better choice for you. On the other hand, if you prefer a more lightweight and compact lidar sensor that still delivers reliable results, the L1 might be sufficient for your needs.
