The DJI Zenmuse L3 is a next-generation aerial LiDAR system designed for high-accuracy surveying, mapping, and digital-twin applications. Built specifically for the DJI Matrice 400 RTK, it combines a 1535 nm long-range LiDAR sensor, dual 100MP Micro 4/3 RGB mapping cameras, and a high-precision POS system to capture detailed geospatial data with 2–4 cm survey-grade accuracy.

With a maximum LiDAR detection range of up to 950 m, even on surfaces with 10% reflectivity, the L3 enables efficient large-area mapping—covering up to 10 km² per flight or 100 km² per day. Integration with DJI Terra allows fast processing of point clouds, orthophotos, and 3D models within a single workflow.

Long-Range LiDAR Performance

The Zenmuse L3 features a 1535 nm Class 1 laser capable of detecting objects up to 950 m away at a 100 kHz pulse rate under bright conditions. Typical flight altitudes of 300–500 m allow large-area coverage while maintaining high point-cloud density.

A 0.25 mrad laser beam divergence creates a smaller spot size than previous DJI LiDAR systems, improving detection of small objects such as power lines and branches and increasing ground point density beneath vegetation.

High Pulse Rate and Multiple Returns

The L3 supports up to 2 million pulses per second with up to 16 returns, allowing flexible adjustment between point cloud density and coverage. This improves terrain reconstruction and performance in forested areas, urban environments, and infrastructure inspections.

Multiple Scanning Modes

The system supports Linear, Star-Shaped, and Non-Repetitive scanning modes for different mapping tasks:

  • Linear Mode: Consistent point-cloud distribution for terrain mapping

  • Star-Shaped Mode: Balanced penetration and multi-angle scanning for forests and dense urban areas

  • Non-Repetitive Mode: Wider scan coverage for power line inspection and structural surveys

Dual 100MP Mapping Cameras

Dual 100MP Micro 4/3 sensors with a 107° field of view capture high-resolution imagery for photogrammetry and point-cloud colorization.

This enables photorealistic orthophotos and engineering-grade mapping outputs.

High-Precision Positioning and Accuracy

The L3 features an upgraded high-precision POS system with:

  • Heading accuracy: 0.02°

  • Pitch accuracy: 0.01°

  • Ranging repeatability: 5 mm at 150 m

Vertical mapping accuracy includes:

  • < 3 cm at 120 m altitude

  • < 5 cm at 300 m altitude

  • < 10 cm at 500 m altitude

These specifications support 1:500, 1:1000, and 1:2000 scale mapping projects.
